Black Conservative Hits Rachel Jeantel’s Speech Impediment

Conservative radio host Larry Elder criticized Rachel Jeantel’s speech impediment Wednesday night during a heated exchange on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, the Raw Story reports.

Jeantel’s speech became a big topic of conversation during George Zimmerman’s second-degree-murder trial. Elder said that the way she speaks suggests that she’s unintelligent and uneducated. She suffers from a structural overbite, which makes it difficult to pronounce consonants properly.

“Rachel Jeantel needs to get her act together,” Elder said. “If my mother were alive, she would say, ‘How dare she speak like that.’ “

Morgan noted that Jeantel was trilingual — she speaks English, Spanish and Haitian Creole — and had a GPA of 3.0 in high school. She fell behind in school because of an illness, which is why she started her senior year of high school when she was 19 years old.

“Does she sound to you like anyone you want to hire in any kind of capacity?” Elder responded.

wow. this is just out of control. while i agree that ms jeantel’s english needs to be better, there is no reason to attack that young lady. she got up on that witness stand and did her best. i do hope that moving forward her grasp of the english language improves vastly however she doesn’t deserve to be slammed like this.

i will say however that while mr elder is on one side of the spectrum, on the other are those who laud jeantel’s lack of english proficiency as a testament of “blackness.” i find that equally disturbing and just as bad of a message.

I am appalled with the things Larry Elder said regarding Rachel Jeantel…Larry Elder you are what’s wrong with the black race…instead of you going out trying to lift Rachel up, you would rather try and tear her down..What are you doing to help “your” people…nothing…I have never heard of you…where did you come from? You are a sick, sick man…everyone’s speech is not as perfect as yours, and if you would have put your hearing ears on and not your criticizing eyes and listened to what Rachel said, not how she said it, you would have heard her story…I got it and I believe her…

And if I remember correctly, Elder made his reputation, future, fame, fortune, defending the best view, values of conservative white America a super hero for the right.

Europeans/Whites love a so-called conservative negro to master the language, logic, In their image, interest that speaks for white supremacy. This was very clear in Carter G. Wilson book
the ” Miseducation of the Negro.”

Notice the strange shape of Mr. Elder’s mouth ? The right side of the face (left in the mirror, and in a photo) is the social side, and expresses what anyone thinks other people want to hear and see. The left side unconsciously expresses one’s private thought and feeling.

This poor man’s face knows perfectly well that he is not telling the truth.

I’ll say this again and every chance I can: Ms Jeantel isn’t anybody’s stupid>>>she speaks 3 different languages, Spanish and English among them. She explained why certain parts of English were a little challenging for her to pronounce to the satisfaction of our American English dialect. When I was in the military I spent a short time at a duty station that received flyers and their crews from Great Britain. The funniest thing was that we Americans had a difficult time understanding them. They would speak (it seemed) to fast and place the wrong accent (to me) on the wrong syllable but I wouldn’t have called them stupid and they only spoke English.

Perhaps that is why our suicide rate is so low.

I am an immigrant to this country from Haiti. I came here when I was a teenager by the time I was 19 I had a better grasp of the English language than Jeantel.

Everything Larry said on Pearce I agree with. I am tired of seing people like Jeantel treated with kids glove because everyone has to pretend that black americans are 1 degree short of getting their masters in rocket science.

Is there racism in America. Yes. Are American racists hiding in bushes waiting to shoot black people at every street corner. No. I am more grateful than ever that I was born in Haiti even thought right now it’s barely a country. Being Haitian born I know that not not everything is a bout color. Most things people say are due to racism, hapened between black people in Haiti. Are haitians racists against other haitians? No. But in America noone is allowed to point out that black Americans are doing more harms to themselves than any white man could do in century without having a mob come out after you. There can’t be a recovery unless you acknowledge a problems and it seems clearer than ever, black Americans are not ready for an intervention. Maybe never. And that is very depressing.

Black Americans have done fine, thank you. No ethnic group (Haitians or European or any other) can claim a corner on success, development or intelligence and your personal success or failure cannot be construed to be indicative of the same for everyone else you may concede to be a part of. There are successful persons and failures in everybody’s circle of relatives.

I am glad to hear that black Americans are doing fine. Now could you do me a favor and write a letter to the media and tell them that. Because what I have been watching on TV lately is a bunch of people telling us black Americans feel they have no future because the white people won’t let them have nice stuff. So maybe your perspective is badly needed in this converstation but I doubt they will listen to you. You are not teling them that all black people have no future because America is on huge KKK camp ground.

I appreciate your perspectives, juvus, and I’m saying that unequivocally black Americans have done (past tense) fine and the future is even brighter because every success (recognized or not) is like the proverbial popcorn in the kettle (no pun intended) that eventually fills up to overflowing. That’s good not only for the black American but for all Americans because no American man or woman is an island, not even the ultra-successful or miserably failed. There are plenty examples of courageous and successful black Americans who have succeeded across the spectrum of the history of this great country (and I’m sure you realize that) and the beautiful thing is that there are even more today (numerically) than ever before! Sometimes it’s best to not watch certain TV stations or even tune into some radio stations because their agenda is division for self-aggrandizement and all they’ll do is point out how we’re different (which I can see with my own eyes) but we find more common ground and common respect by knowing how we are the same even though we’re different. Have you ever heard of a psychological study done with children which centered around who had brown eyes and which ones had blue eyes? The core of the story is that the kids responded to inferences of difference; some were inflated and some were deflated. Didn’t mean to write so long but I’m confident we all have a brighter future as Americans even though we may go through bumpy times and what to others may look like train wrecks but we’re still moving ahead.
