Kerry Washington On Emmy Nom: ‘What An Absolute Honor’

As we reported, Kerry Washington has received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the role as Olivia Pope on the hit ABC drama “Scandal.”

Washington’s nomination was for for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Like most stars, the actress used Twitter as the means to share her excitement about the Emmy nod.

“Just landed. WOW! I’m so grateful & humbled. THX 4 all your CONGRATS,” Washington wrote via @KerryWashington. “And a HUGE thank you to the @PrimetimeEmmys voters! What an absolute honor! Wow.”

Social media fans of “Scandal” have been rallying for Washington to receive a nomination since the show’s debut season. Washington is just happy that it came to fruition.

“I’ll spend the rest of my life saying this and it won’t ever be enough but… THANK YOU @shondarhimes XOXOXOX,” she concluded.

The nomination adds to an already impressive year for the 36-year-old actress. Washington is also currently featured on the cover of Vanity Fair. She is one of the few people of color to ever land a solo cover of the publication.

Earlier this month, it was also revealed that Washington had secretly wed NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha on June 24, 2013 during a secret ceremony in Hailey, Idaho.
