BITS: Columbus Short & Wife Divorcing – R. Kelly Releasing New Album
RadarOnline is reporting that “Scandal” star Columbus Short is getting a divorce from his wife, Tanee McCall.
Tuere filed for divorce from Columbus on Sept. 11 in Los Angeles after being married for eight years.
The two were married in 2005 and have a 19-month-old daughter together names Ayala, who Tanee wants sole legal and physical custody of.
Court documents states that the date of separation was Sept. 9, 2013. It also shows that Tanee wants spousal support and for Columbus to pay her legal fees. We’re not sure what the issues are that led to their impending divorce, but there have been tabloid reports of infidelity in the marriage.
This was Columbus’ second marriage and he has a son from his previous marriage

R. Kelly is scheduled to release his twelfth studio album “Black Panties” on Nov. 11. The “Bump n’ Grind” singer revealed the release date at a recent listening session.
“Black Panties” comes as a follow up to Kelly’s last album “Write Me Back.” Kelly is also looking to release part three in his “Trapper in the Closet” series.
His first single from the new album is “My Story” featuring 2 Chainz. R. Kelly spoke about the LP with Revolt TV at a recent ATL listening session.

HBO, ‘Behind The Candelabra’ Lead Creative Arts Emmy Awards; Bob Newhart, Dan Bucatinsky, Melissa Leo, Carrie Preston, Heidi Klum & Tim Gunn, ‘Undercover Boss’, ‘South Park’ & Tony Awards Among Winners
The first 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out this afternoon at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles. HBO led with 20 Emmys, followed by CBS with 15 and NBC’s with 11. HBO’s Behind the Candelabra was the most awarded program with 8 Emmys. CBS’ Undercover Boss won best reality show, South Park was named best animated show, while Project Runway‘s Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn took best reality hosts. The Guest Actor/Actress categories were the highlight of the ceremony with emotional wins for comedy great Bob Newhart, who snagged his first Emmy for The Big Bang Theory, Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal), Melissa Leo (Louie) and Carrie Preston (The Good Wife). A new 45-second rule imposed on winners’ walk to the stage and acceptance speeches created quite a stir at the ceremony, which still ran for almost 4 hours, clocking in at 3 hr 49 min. A two-hour, edited version will air Saturday, September 21st on FXX.

Diane Haithman, Ray Richmond and Anthony D’Alessandro were on the scene at the Nokia for Deadline: Balmier weather than last year’s 100-degree heat made for a livelier Red Carpet. Matt Weiner, whose Mad Men suffered a historic shutout last year with 17 nominations and no wins, was optimistic heading into the ceremony. “Ya know what, anything would be great,” he said. “I would love to see one of our (guest) actors recognized. Linda (Cardellini), Harry (Hamlin), Robert Morse. None of our actors have been recognized (with wins). We’ve never won an editing or cinematography award.” Asked whether Mad Men would possibly do a Season 8 if the price was right, Weiner said: “No, no, it’s not about the deal. I want to wrap the show up. I have a good vibe for what we’re doing in this last piece and that’s the way to go. Will there be more TV and film in my life? I hope so. I’ve written a play. I don’t expect this (the Emmy sensation) to happen again. That would be greedy.”
Some 88 awards were given away today. To try to get it done in a reasonable time, Creative Arts Emmys producer Spike Jones Jr. appeared onstage before show time to urge winners to keep it short, announcing a 45-seconds limit from the moment the winner’s name is announced. “You have 45 seconds to get from your seat all the way down the aisle, up the steps, and do your acceptance speech. I’m not kidding. Forty-five seconds. We’ve found that you can say a lot in a very short period of time. Everybody in this room will thank you for it.”
2013 Creative Arts Emmy Winners
The never-shy Community showrunner Dan Harmon and star Joel McHale set an outrageous tone at the outset as presenters of the first four awards, channeling infamous Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais. “Tonight we honor all of the people in primetime television who are contractually obligated not to make eye contact with me,” said McHale. Harmon, the combative fired and then reinstated boss of Community, then made a quip about how he’d soon be fired by FXX, the new network telecasting a truncated edition of the ceremony. “We’re going to show those frauds (in TV) that these people (here tonight) are the real celebrities,” he said.

Leo thanked Louie creator/star Louis CK at least five times consecutively, including a final time in Spanish: “Gracias Louie!” “And thank you, Blair,” she added to executive producer M. Blair Breard. “She concluded with a jokey: “Time’s up, isn’t it?”
Backstage, Leo called her guest role in Louie — involving a hilariously raw discussion of oral sex in a car — “scary.” She said she enjoyed trying something “I had not had much opportunity to try — making people laugh.”
The Oscar-winning actress was asked if she was tempted to use any “naughty speech” in her acceptance as she had when she dropped an F-bomb at the Academy Awards. “I will never be tempted to curse in any way that would possibly come across to homes that would not like that kind of language,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to sully their living rooms with the kind of language I don’t mind in mine.”

He and his fellow winners were then quickly hustled offstage.

I’ve done [the show] for 28 years, but (co-winners) Eugene Lee and Akira Yoshimura did the original show. Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and series’ nominated guest actress Linda Cardellini came out to present several Emmys for hairstyling, and the chrome-domed Weiner recognized the irony. “I want you to be honest,” he said to Cardellini. “I think (my hair is) thinning a little bit.” Cardellini went on with the gag before a still flashed onscreen showing Weiner with a horrid wig, drawing a few guffaws from the crowd inside the Nokia.

Dan Bucatinsky as James Novack
An ebullient Dan Bucatinsky gave the humdrum ceremony a huge burst of energy and emotion when he won for his role on Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal, which is cast by Linda Lowy. He raced onstage in a frenzy, looking utterly shocked, and blurted, “Oh my God! Oh my God! Shonda Rhimes! Linda Lowy! You’ve changed my life!” He also thanked his team at CAA, his kids, his onscreen husband, Jeff Perry, and his real-life one, Don Roos. “How many people get to say onscreen husband and real-life husband?,” Bucatinsky marveled before giving a shoutout to the recent historic vote on gay marriage. “Thank you Supreme Court of the United States!”
Bucatinsky remained as jazzed backstage, calling his win “unbelievable given the level of competition.” He added that while many other actors may say what a family their set is, “in our case (on Scandal) it’s really true. We really are very Kumbaya. My friends are very jealous.” Bucatinsky also expanded on what he’d said onstage about being a gay man with an opportunity finally to marry his partner. “I’m very proud to be a married, out gay man with an adopted child playing a married, out gay man with an adopted child,” her said. “To have all of this happen at he same time when marriage equality became a reality and getting so much attention makes it that much sweeter.”

Stettner made a joke that felt right in place with the predominantly below-the-line crowd. They’re really winners tonight.” He added that the composer of the play-off music must be raking in a fortune in residuals and joked that even the Venice Beach homeless could not be talked into becoming seat fillers on the program even if “we make a new category for you and let you win — no one will know.”

Lily Tomlin as Narrator
Given the extremely short time allowed for acceptance speeches, it is no wonder Tomlin had to apologize backstage for having forgotten to mention important people. She said she had meant to accept the award in honor of the late Pat Derby and her partner Ed Stewart, rescuers and protectors of exotic performing animals. And “I wanted to say: ‘It’s time to free the elephants,’” she added.
Following Scandal guest star Bucatinsky’s heartfelt comments on same sex marriage, the openly gay Tomlin was asked for her views. “I’m all for it,” she said, noting that she has been with her partner 42 years. Always the humorist, Tomlin said she’d been asked about gay marriage on a red carpet and had offered a flip response about the “slippery slope” of imitating heterosexuals: “What’s next, monster truck rallies?” Tomlin’s partner, she said, scolded her for not taking the issue seriously. So next time Tomlin was asked the question, she said, “I just spoke very positively about it and it just went viral. So I’m answering you now: We still have not gotten married, but we if we do we won’t be able to sell the pictures to People, it will be a very under-the-radar occasion. God knows we don’t want to even get into the wardrobe thing.”

Appearing backstage with executive producer Jerry Weintraub, Behind the Candelabra actor Scott Bakula said that when it comes to importance for an actor in getting into character, “costume is 80 percent, hair and makeup 20 percent.” Weintraub was asked why he wanted to bring the Liberace story to TV. “I didn’t want to bring it to TV, I wanted to make a film,” Weintraub said. “I knew Liberace personally. I thought he was extraordinary.” It was HBO, Weintraub said, that sought to bring the story to the small screen.
A reporter took note of Weintraub’s embroidered and bejeweled tuxedo slippers, asking if they perhaps came from Liberace’s closet. “No, but they certainly could have,” Weintraub said.

Tears of joy rolled down the cheeks of the iconic Bob Newhart, who finally won an Emmy after seven nominations for his guest stint on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory. Greeted onstage by a standing ovation, an overcome Newhart warned Creative Arts producer Spike Jones he would not comply with the 45-second acceptance rule. “Spike, I’m gonna need a little more time with this,” he said. “This is my seventh shot at this.” Newhart then acknowledged his wife of 50 years, proving “there are long marriages in show business.” He also named his four children and mentioned how he worked for 14 years “at a wonderful place called MTM. And now I’m working at a wonderful place called Big Bang Theory.” He concluded by thanking the show’s cast “who really threw themselves on the sword for me.” Newhart was not drowned out by music; he cut himself off.

Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni
Carrie Preston pulled something of an upset in winning the guest actress trophy in her first nomination for her work on The Good Wife as zany but brilliant lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, and she was as excited as you think she’d be. Starting with the obligatory pair of “Oh my Gods,” Preston — a regular on HBO’s True Blood – thanked Good Wife creators/showrunners Robert and Michelle King along with “all of the writers and directors for entrusting me with this gem of a role” as well as star Julianna Margulies and the cast “for treating me not like a guest but like a part of the family.” Finally, she thanked “my family at True Blood for looking the other way when I had a full-on affair with The Good Wife.”
Backstage Preston said she hoped that her “affair with The Good Wife” would continue in upcoming seasons. After asking “is everybody ready to have a drink?” she said: “I’ve made myself known that I would love to be on that show at any time. Any time that they call me, I will come. I hope they will call me again.”
Preston, who is married to Emmy-winning actor Michael Emerson, said that while Emmy moments are exciting for both she and her husband, “we’re real salt-of-the-earth people. What really keeps us going is the work that we do.”

Neil Patrick Harris, a winner as producer/host of The 66th Annual Tony Awards as well as a presenter, came backstage with Tonys executive producer Ricky Kirshner. When asked what to expect at next weekend’s Primetime Emmys show, Harris took a potshot at this evening’s long-winded presenter Gilbert Gottfried.
The primetime programming awards will feature “a lot of Gilbert Gottfried,” Harris deadpanned. “When we’re long, we’ll have him talk about what just happened.”
On a more serious note, Harris said of his upcoming hosting duties for the Emmys: “We’re past the horribly insecure part. We’ll spend a lot of time this last week waiting for people to say yes, they’ll commit to things.” In the final prep week, he said, ‘we’re kind of seeing things getting and working on different lines and dialogue and dance moves. I’m in the choreographers’ number, so I have to dance.”

LEFT CLAIMS SUMMERS’ SCALP: WHO’S NEXT?
President Obama wants to get back on offense today in a speech warning Republicans that brinkmanship on budget matters in the weeks ahead could end the already weak economic recovery that has followed the Panic of 2008, which began five years ago this week. But with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers unhorsed as the leading contender to replace outgoing Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Obama may be talking to the wrong partisans.
[WSJ: “Liberals could try to use the blockade they put up to stop [Lawrence Summers’] nomination as a playbook on coming discussions to prevent a partial government shutdown later this month and a possible vote to raise the debt ceiling in October.”]
Give them an inch – Liberal Democrats have lost their midterm jitters and have scored victories on blocking the president’s plan for air strikes against Syria as well as the successful scuttling of Summers’ Fed bid, despite Obama’s public support. With liberal leaders like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., firing up crowds over Wall Street’s escape from federal prosecutions and unions increasingly alarmed about the consequences of the president’s 2010 health law, Obama finds himself in a bind.
[Obama = Boehner? – WaPo explores how Lawrence Summers’ forced withdrawal has weakened President Obama, similar to the party infighting that has sapped House Speaker John Boehner.]
The takeaway – While pounding the Republicans again today will help restore some of Obama’s credibility with his left flank, the president’s backing down on Syria and Summers will encourage liberals to be rigid on budget matters.
BAIER TRACKS: SUMMERS AND SYRIA…
“Friday, I wrote up a pitch for a story for us to consider that would lay out President Obama’s important choice for a new leader of the Federal Reserve, and how despite some early thoughts that Larry Summers would be the man, the votes were not lining up.
Here’s part of my Friday pitch email: “I am hearing Summers is in REAL trouble, and that there are at least 4 DEMOCRATS on the [Senate Banking] committee prepared to vote against him. Believe it or not, this could have something to do with Syria in a way. Liberal Democrats may not feel as much pressure to fall in line with President Obama. It’s just a theory worth investigating.”
That was Friday. This is the story in the NYT today, including these lines about Summers removing his name from consideration: ‘After weeks of opposition to his candidacy from an array of progressives, the president’s inability to rally Congressional Democrats on Syria persuaded Mr. Summers that his most important audience — the Senate, which must confirm a Fed chairman — probably could not be won over. He concluded that the White House was also unlikely to overcome opposition to his candidacy from many of the same Democrats, who view him as an opponent of stronger financial regulation.’
Some pitches are better than others.” – Bret Baier.
[“There are ways of doing this, it’s just that they haven’t been willing to negotiate in a serious way on that. What I haven’t been willing to negotiate, and I will not negotiate, is on the debt ceiling.” – President Obama on ABC’s “This Week”]
KERRY INSISTS: UN WILL ENFORCE SYRIA DEAL
In a statement Monday morning in Paris, Secretary of State John Kerry insisted, “If Assad fails in time to abide by the terms of this framework, make no mistake, we are all agreed – and that includes Russia – that there will be consequences.” Ahead of a meeting with French President François Hollande, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and British Foreign Secretary William Hague, Kerry added the countries will “… not tolerate avoidance or anything less than full compliance.”
UN briefing on Syria’s chemical weapons today – U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will brief a closed session of the Security Council on a U.N. inspectors report on last month’s alleged poison gas attack in Syria. He will also brief the 193-member General Assembly later today.
Syria can keep biological weapons? – Washington Examiner reports the U.S.-Russia framework calling for Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad to surrender chemical weapons does not cover biological weapons. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is pressing for the agreement to include biological agents.
Barrasso blasts Russia deal – Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., blasts the administration’s trust of Russia to lead in diplomatic relations in Syria in a WSJ OpEd: “Based on the experience of the past four years, the Russians, like the Iranians, are well aware that pretending to go along can buy time until the Obama administration becomes distracted with another issue.”
[Watch Fox: Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, discusses Syria in the 10 a.m. ET hour]
WITH YOUR SECOND CUP OF COFFEE
Mary Anastasia O’Grady criticizes a new U.S. aid package to El Salvador’s leftist leader Salvador Sánchez Cerén in her WSJ column, A U.S. Reward for Misrule in El Salvador: “…Washington has signaled the Salvadoran political class on both sides of the aisle that creeping authoritarianism is fine with Uncle Sam.”
IOWA WANTS TO HEAR FROM HILLARY
After lots of red meat for the Democratic base this weekend from Vice President Joe Biden at Sen. Tom Harkin’s annual steak fry, Iowa Democrats are wondering when the frontrunner, Hillary Clinton, will show. As Joan Lewis, a Des Moines Democrat who came out to hear the Vice President’s pitch, explained: “I think she should be starting now.” Joan’s husband, Ted, told Fox News Junior Reporter Lauren Blanchard: “I think if [Clinton] starts now and continues on, she’s a shoo-in. I don’t know of any Republican that can beat her.” A late start in Iowa cost Clinton dearly in 2008.
[Biden finished fifth in Iowa during his 2008 presidential bid, behind then-Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., with .09 percent of the vote.]
Biden still beating the bushes – Vice President Joe Biden heads to another early primary state today when he visits the Port of Charleston in South Carolina to talk about the economy.
We’ll try to catch them between campaign events, Mr. President – “I suspect if you asked both [Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden], they’d say: ‘It’s way too premature to start talking about.’” – President Obama on ABC’s “This Week” when asked about the 2016 Democratic presidential field.
REPUBLICANS BLAST BENGHAZI REPORT
Fox News – A report from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee found big gaps in the State Department review of the lapses that led to the raid by Islamist militants in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans last year. The report found the original review let senior officials off the hook for the decisions that led to substandard security. The report contends the department’s probe was not thorough and the investigation itself may have been damaged by conflicts of interest. The department defended its review and dismissed the criticism as partisan.
UNINSURED NOT BUYING INTO OBAMACARE
WSJ: “A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found only 32% of the uninsured thought they were ‘fairly’ or ‘very’ likely to use the [ObamaCare] exchanges…” Nearly 70% of poll respondents said they didn’t understand the health-care overhaul … Among the uninsured, 76% of respondents said they didn’t understand the law and how it would affect them.
OBAMAPHONE FORGERIES
An investigation found lots of forged signatures on applications for federally subsidized mobile phones for the poor in the Lifeline program, dubbed “Obamaphone” by detractors. An investigation by Scripps Television’s Jim Osman found forged signatures on applications in four states. Osman also found a company signing up beneficiaries has employed convicted felons who have admitted to the forgeries, and listed abandoned homes on numerous applications.

CUCCINELLI KEEPS TECH BACKING
The Northern Virginia Technology Council’s TechPAC is standing by its endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli after a feverish attempt by Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s supporters to reverse the decision. WaPo reports Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., and others lobbied hard to undo the endorsement. The backbiting returns to the airwaves today as the campaigns debut dueling attack ads.
National GOP arrives – Cuccinelli welcomes Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., at a fundraiser in Richmond today. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will do the same in Northern Virginia on Tuesday. Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., joins Cuccinelli for an anti-ObamaCare event in Bristol, Va., today.
SEE YOU AT FENWAY, MS. COAKLEY!
Boston Globe: Attorney General Martha Coakley, D-Mass., will announce today her plans to run for Massachusetts governor next year. Coakley was defeated in 2010 by former Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., in her bid to replace the late Ted Kennedy. Coakley, who scoffed at the idea of glad-handing with voters outside of Fenway Park, is seen as the Democratic frontrunner.
LIMBAUGH, DRUDGE TOP CONSERVATIVE CLOUT LIST
Rush Limbaugh tops TownHall’s list of the 25 most influential conservatives. Matt Drudge comes in at number two. Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer holds the 19th spot on the list with conservative commentator and blogger, Michelle Malkin rounding out the list at 25. Of the potential 2016 field: Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rand Paul, R-Ky., made the list, while Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., received an honorable mention. Not mentioned, honorably or otherwise: Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J.
AT LEAST THEY COULD AGREE ON THAT
During a fly-over to assess flood-ravaged areas of Colorado, Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., directed his pilot to stop and rescue a dozen flood victims spotted by Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Colo. Hickenlooper praised the pilot for the tight landing, saying he could “get inside of four acorns in a parking space.” According to the LAT, Hickenlooper and Gardner also assisted in saving a cat and dog from the flood waters.
MAKING NEW FRIENDS
“Fox and Friends” welcomed Elisabeth Hasselbeck this morning. Hasselbeck, a “Survivor,” mother of three and proud Quahog, found her spot between Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, who have been working together on the morning show since 1998. The set is new, but the couch is still curvy. “I am excited to take a seat right here,” Hasselbeck said. “I can’t believe this is happening right now.”

I am sorry to hear this. I hope that they consider counseling and trying to mend things. Building and maintaining a marriage is difficult when a child is involved it just gets even crazier. They are a very attractive couple, seemingly doing well (finally) and now this. Too many divorces for such a young man.
Marriages that fall apart are sad. Columbus now has two divorces and two kids under 35, smh. Scandal success is going to his head. I remember the Britney Spears affair he was involved in that ended his first marriage. Hopefully he’ll stop making babies and getting married since he clearly has issues with loyalty to matrimony and family.
Are you saying or thinking that infidelity led to this breakup? I hope not and I did not see that anyplace in the article. Did I miss something or do you have insider information about this? The pressures of celebrity, money, and potentially growing apart because of both things is significant. I hope that if there are other “people” or another “person” that led to this, that they can still work it out. People can and often do overcome such things, if they really try hard and have a reason to want to do it.
