Rob Portman to the rescue?
Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio is trying to enlist support from Senate Democrats for a proposal he believes could break the stalemate, according to a person familiar with the plan. Mr. Portman has recommended an agreement that would fund the government for one year at the level favored by House Republicans that would include plans to start lawmakers on an overhaul of the tax code. His plan also would raise the debt limit by an amount equal to deficit-reduction measures already backed by Mr. Obama in his most recent budget, including a switch to a new measure of inflation under which Social Security benefits would rise more slowly.

You should soon be able to use e-devices during take-offs and landings
You should soon be able to keep using your Kindle, tablet, laptop or other electronic device on a plane. According to Nick Bilton of The New York Times: “Last week, a 28-member panel set up last year to revise policies for electronics on airplanes recommended that the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] change the rule, allowing passengers to use their devices from gate to gate, including take-off, taxiing and landing. Cellphone calls will still [be] banned.”
http://bits.blogs.nyti…Bilton has had a lot to do with the change. He wrote a column about it in 2011, after his Kindle reading was interrupted. The response was so strong that he wrote more than a dozen follow-up stories.
In fact, tablets will be used by pilots as well as by passengers. For example, Delta Air Lines is equipping 11,000 pilots with “electronic flight bags” based on Microsoft Surface 2 tablets, because it saves carrying a lot of heavy paper manuals.
http://www.microsoft.c…Are you excited about being able to use your gadgets during take-offs and landings? I’m not sure it’s a good idea.
Take-offs and landings are the riskiest parts of any flight, and there’s a case for putting away both electronic and non-electronic devices — books, newspapers etc — and being ready for action in case of an emergency. The risks are very small, but the times are short. Paying attention for just one or two minutes could save your life.

Yes the shutdown sucks, but lawmakers should still get paid.
Tim Murphy makes an argument that I’ve been thinking of all week:
“But logistics aside, the idea that congressmen should work without pay is based on a faulty, if widely held premise—that congressmen aren’t doing their jobs. It’s certainly true that Congress as a body isn’t functioning properly, but on a district-by-district level, residents are getting what they voted for. People who elected mainstream Democratic senators didn’t send them to Washington to defund the Affordable Care Act; people who stocked the House with arch-conservative Republicans in 2010 and 2012 didn’t send their representatives to Washington to keep the Affordable Care Act intact. Why should a powerless House Democrat have to rearrange his finances because of John Boehner’s intransigence?”

Like –Some thoughts on Joe Hart and his future as England’s number one:
18 months ago, it would have seemed absurd to suggest that anyone other than Joe Hart should be between the sticks for England. He was a vital part of the Manchester City side that won their first league title since 1968, and his displays had many claiming he was amongst, if not the, best goalkeeper in the world.
While I personally thought it an insult to Gigi Buffon and Iker Casillas to suggest that Joe Hart could be the best goalkeeper in the world, it was certainly a testament to his ability. However the past year and a half have not been kind to Englands number one.
What at first were dubbed ‘uncharacteristic errors’, Hart’s mistakes are steadily becoming more and more common. David Platt, former assistant manager at Man City, said that he and Roberto Mancini were looking to bring in Asmir Begovic as competition for Hart.
Platt told Al Jazeera: “If Mancini and I were still at Man City this year Joe Hart wouldn’t be there. We made a decision to sign Asmir Begovic.”
A strong indictment from a former coach, although whether or not it’s actually true remains to be seen.
So what is Joe Hart’s future in the England squad? Hodgson maintains that he is still the number one, and that is probably the best option moving into the World Cup Qualifiers. Now would be a risky time to experiment with a new goalkeeper.
However, moving forward, Joe Hart’s position is far from secure. Fraser Forster has been consistently impressive at Celtic, and is proving his worth in the Champions League. Similarly, if Jack Butland were to get back his form that impressed at the Olympics, then he’ll be looking for Hart’s shirt as well.
If Hart keeps making errors then questions will have to be asked about his place at Man City and in the England squad. Hopefully, for his sake, he regains some of his form.

Fash insiders will have to find something new to spend all their time & effort speculating about now it’s been confirmed that Marc Jacobs is leaving Vuitton. As a “goodbye” present, the runway featured highlights from his sixteen years at the maison of mode he built into a mega-success for LVMH. There was the carousel, those hotel corridors, that fountain…just all in black. All dedicated (generously, I thought) to muses that inspired him, including Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, Miuccia Prada and Coco Chanel. And his show program notes ended with a hat tip “to the showgirl in all of us.”
And showgirl she was, strutting down the runway of memories sporting beads, crystals, feather and more feathers – especially by way of Stephen Jones’s fabu headgear. Plus faded denim, patchwork and bodysuits. Whether she deserved a the standing ovation she got – ah hell, it’s show business.

Everyone pretty much agrees that SNL was a big bomb last night, but if you had to pick a skit that was mildly amusing it would be the “50 Shades of Grey Audition Tape.” If only because SNL cast member Noel Wells absolutely NAILED Kristen Stewart as she auditioned for the part of Ana opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The skit poked fun at the erotic parody by pairing the worst possible Christian and Ana pairs they could find for the role and making them read parts of the script. Miley played Scarlett Johansson along with Taran Killam as 57-year-old German actor Christoph Waltz because does anyone even know who that guy is?

The umpires would also have to assume that he would have caught it. If he caught it, it would be one of the best catches in playoff history. I don’t think you can assume that he could catch the ball. It was wrong to reach over the railing, but all they caused were a review. If they didn’t reach over, it would’ve been a home run anyways.

Divorce Will Be Simple
Exclusive
Khloe Kardashian wants to divorce Lamar Odom — even though she hasn’t pulled the trigger — and there will be NO disputes because everything is predetermined by their prenup … TMZ has learned.Sources close to the couple tell us … Khloe is “anxious” to end the marriage but, as we first reported, she hasn’t had papers drawn up because she fears it could push Lamar over the edge — she’s worried he’ll OD or commit suicide.
But we’re told Khloe is waiting for the right time to make her move, and when she does the divorce will go without a hitch. That’s because the prenup keeps the assets of Khloe and Lamar separate … sources familiar with the document tell TMZ.
In fact, we’re told Lamar is so deep into the world of drugs, he’s in no position to start haggling, even if there were something over which to haggle. As we reported, Lamar has been using crack off and on for months, among other drugs, and is probably legally incompetent to negotiate anything.
One more thing. There are stories floating around that there’s an “infidelity clause” in the prenup, giving Khloe more money if Lamar had cheated. All of our sources make it clear — NO SUCH CLAUSE is in the prenup.

Exclusive DetailsBruce Jenner’s new favorite word is clearly F**K, because he couldn’t stop using it yesterday after Kris Jenner announced their separation.
Bruce was at a golf course Tuesday near the family’s home in Calabasas … and he flew off the handle at some photogs (not TMZ) who he claimed were on private property.
Fast forward to later Tuesday … at a yogurt shop with Kendall and Kylie in the San Fernando Valley … more F**Ks and fingers.
As we reported … family sources tell TMZ … Bruce hated the whole Hollywood life and said, “f**k this s**t and moved to Malibu. But there are no plans for divorce — at least not now. Bruce will still be a part of the show and sources tell us the split will become a big part of the story line in season 9.See also

He Finally Said
‘F**k This S**t’
Exclusive
Bruce Jenner is a simple man who likes simple things, and Kris is the exact opposite, which is why, according to a very connected family source, Bruce finally said, “F**k this s**t” and he moved to Malibu.Several family sources all confirm … Bruce has always been “a simple man” who likes 3 things — golf, racing cars and RC helicopters. He has always shunned the “Hollywood life” and it makes him extremely uncomfortable.
Kris — in case you didn’t know — is ambitious … some say to a fault. One family source put it this way: “She’s on a freight train and Bruce finally wanted off.”
We’re told Kris wasn’t the one who wanted Bruce to move out, because it wasn’t good for the show or the Kardashian brand. It was Bruce who just got sick of it. It wasn’t that he was bossed around or got into big fights with Kris — it’s just that he wasn’t happy around her.
Aside from his hobbies, Bruce is now obsessed with re-establishing a relationship with his sons, Brandon and Brody, who were raised by their mom Linda Thompson and her then hubby David Foster. We’re told Bruce and his boys now have “an adult relationship” and are finally getting along — and that’s what is making him happy.

Gangsta’s Paradise Unplugged
Rapper Jams with College Kids
Coolio put on the ultimate acoustic performance last night … busting out “Gangsta’s Paradise” while chillin’ on a couch in a college kid’s living room … while a student with a guitar strummed out a beat.
The rapper was in England to play a gig — and met a couple of University of Central Lancashire students in the V.I.P. area.
We spoke with one of the students, Lorcan, who posted his account of the night on Reddit … and he tells us Coolio liked the kids and offered to cook the gang dinner (he’s a big-time chef nowadays).
After stopping by a grocery store to pick up the ingredients for a caprese salad, a peach crumble and something called “Chicken á la Daaaamn” … Coolio decided to treat the kids to a rendition of his biggest hit … and it was awesome. We’re told Coolio paid for everything.
After the performance, the student said Coolio was a “great guy” … who “had some very deep and profound thoughts on life and his time in the business.”
The whole thing is pretty awesome — check out the clip.

RIPS SEACREST’S SHOW
‘Million Second Quiz’ Was TERRIBLE!!!
THIIISSS … is Ryan Seacrest getting OBLITERATED by his former “American Idol” executive producer, who called “Million Second Quiz” the worst TV show he’s seen in a while. Here’s the backstory … last night, we shot ex-“Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe in NY … and asked him to name the most unwatchable piece of crap he’s seen on the tube lately.
Nigel barely took a beat … before telling us, “Million Second Quiz,” that Seacrest-produced disaster that aired on NBC earlier this year.
So, why would Lythgoe go after MSQ? Couple of possibilities …
1) Sour grapes. Lythgoe worked on “Idol” for years before he got the chop back in June. Seacrest is still on the show. Maybe he’s just bitter.
OR …
2) Nigel’s just telling the truth — ’cause MSQ wasn’t just bad, it was the Bernie Madoff of game shows — everyone who watched felt ripped off.
We’re gonna lean towards #2. Seriously, that show was bad.

‘Hitner’ Application
FILED with the Court
Exclusive
He talked the talk, but now 49ers safety Donte Whitner is walking the walk … officially filing an application with the court to legally change his last name to “Hitner,” TMZ has learned.Donte has been talking about making the move ever since the NFL fined him $21k for an illegal hit on a Rams wide receiver earlier this season.
But now, we’ve learned … on Tuesday, Whitner sent his attorney Larry Zukerman to file the official request at Probate Court of Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
In the doc, Donte explains that he wants to make the change because it will be beneficial to his career as a pro football player and in other business ventures.
As we previously reported, the process usually takes about 6 weeks before the name change is granted by a judge … so, Whitner probably won’t become Hitner until the end of November … right around the time the 49ers play Washington, another team that should consider a name change.

THE DUI MUG SHOT
TMZ has obtained the mug shot for Jerry Sandusky’s son Jon Sandusky — taken moments after the Cleveland Browns director of player personnel was arrested for DUI yesterday.
36-year-old Jon was initially pulled over in Fargo, ND early Tuesday morning after cops say he made an illegal turn. During the stop, cops suspected he was hammered tried to administer a breathalyzer test … but Jon refused.
Instead, cops ordered Jon to do field sobriety tests — and he clearly didn’t perform well enough, ’cause he was immediately arrested for driving under the influence.
Sandusky was hauled to a nearby station where he was booked — posed for his mug shot — and was eventually released.
It’s been a rough couple of years for the Sandusky family — Jon’s sick pedophile father Jerry was arrested in 2011 for raping a bunch of boys in the Penn State locker room.
He’s currently rotting in prison … where he will most likely die.
